What affects the voice of my piano and why does it change?
Made of wood and felt, hammers will change their shape and hardness, even if the piano is not played. The effects of humidity, age, and the amount of use will make your instrument more difficult to control. If the hammer becomes too firm, the sound will lack depth of tone and sustain. If it becomes too soft, the sound will be weak and have trouble carrying through a larger room. Voicing counteracts these elements and returns the hammers to their optimum playing condition.
